Canterbury Guitar Society

The Canterbury Guitar Society meets monthly from September to July. Twice a year, we have public professional concerts of a very high standard, the other meetings we perform to and learn from each other. We welcome (classical) players of all standards.

Our next concert is on Monday June 18th 7.30pm at the Friends Meeting House (by the Marlowe Theatre). David Jaggs will be playing solos by Dowland, Scarlatti, Fernando Sor, and Albeniz, and the Latin American composers Manuel Ponce (Sonatina Meridional), Leo Brouwer (El Decameron Negro), and Heitor Villa-Lobos. David Jaggs attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under the direction of David Miller and Antonio Albanes. After graduating with distinction, he become a private student of one of the world's leading classical guitarists, Manuel Barrueco at his home in New Jersey, USA.

David has played in master classes given by Hector Quine, David Russell, Benjamin Verdery, Robert Brightmore, Ignacio Rodes and Vladmir Mikulka. He has won several prizes and scholarships including the Peter Latham Leaving Scholarship and the Marjorie and Dorothy Whyte Award. David has appeared on numerous television and radio programmes. His career has taken him to many major venues up and down the country both as a soloist and in ensemble work including several tours with the Scottish Ensemble.

As well as classical music David has produced numerous "easy listening" albums which have proved to be very popular and is also in the process of preparing tuition videos on many aspects of guitar playing and technique some of which include contributions from other celebrated musicians.
